Sowohl die Grund- wie auch die erweiterten Funktionalitäten der Wiki Plattform der Freien Universität Berlin werden durch sog. Macros gewährleistet. Die Macros sind "einfache" Programmbefehle, die die Darstellung von komplexeren und dynamischen Inhalten ermöglichen. Diese Programmbefehle werden innerhalb einer Wiki Seite eingefügt. Das Wiki-System übernimmt die Aufgabe, diese Befehle einzulesen und bei der Aufruf einer Wiki-Seite auszuführen.
Die einzelnen Macros sind normalerweise Teile von einem größeren Programmpaket. Diese Pakete werden oft auch Plugins genannt und können von den Systemadministratoren einzeln verwaltet werden.
Standardmäßig verfügt das FU Wiki-System über folgende Macros.
